ok peoples...  sad to say, but as much as i love this xanga, it looks like i'm going to start phasing it out some...  for a while i will probably post duplicate stuff on here...  but i'm working on another blog at http//www.beninrio.blogspot.com - i like it cause they'll let me put up pictures...  anyway, like i said, i'll be putting stuff on both for a while...  to check it out w/ pics and links and all, just cut and paste the above into your browser...  must run...

peace,

ben

welcome to my first ever post by candle-light...  i got nothing much to say, except to ask both of you that read this to be praying for a friend of ours down in lapa.  about a week ago, she got in a fight with her husband, and he threw a jar full of paint thinner at her face.  it got in her eyes.  one of them healed well, but the other is painful and infected...  anyway, we're heading to the hospital tomorrow to get it looked at.  pray for wanda.  and pray for grace as i figure out the procedure, and patience as well...

tonight i made a new friend down in lapa - little elena who became my best friend and taught me to dance (i can hold my own with a two year old...  some of the time...)  as i was leaving, she blew me a kiss...  so cute.  preciuosl little girl.  pray for her too...  ok.  good night.  as soon as i send this, i'm going to make a smoothie in my blender out of bananas, yogurt, pinapple, oranges, and mangos, and then i'm going to go sit up on my roof with my guitar and drink the smoothie, play a little, and prepare for tomorrow...  =)  hope you find something as restful and as beautiful...

peace,

ben

hey guys,
sorry i'm a slacker.  just wanted to share something funny...  i just got my first letter yesterday (from the phone company).  apparently, my official address is

Ben Miller
Rua Parana 22
Close to the Soccer Field
Manguinhos, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

i love it...  hey, but if you're in the mood to send me things, don't send it there.  i have a PO box for stuff you want to make sure gets to me.  but if you wanna try, and see if something makes it, go ahead...  assume it won't though.  me getting it is just an extra little perk...  =)

peace...

yo - this'll be speedy.  i just wanted to ask for your prayers...  the police have been a little more harrassing lately (cause it's closer to carnaval)... there was a shooting down in lapa last week, and a friend of ours was injured...  they've been hassling us too cause of where we live.  yesterday i was stopped and frisked twice by the police...  i don't want to freak people out, but to get your prayers for safety and for peace in this city...  thanks everyone.

so it's been way long since i've been on here.  since i was on here last i've been to são paolo working on my visa so i can stay here (which i dropped off at the police today...)  pray that it  gets accepted so i can stay...  =)  no reason they shouldn't, but sometimes i just get worried.

we also took a retreat (me, rich and rebecca, and jenna, our newest staff member) up to the mountains for a few days of relaxing, recharging, team building, and playing!  it was beautiful...  the place we stayed was right next to this rushing stream that was chilly, but not too cold to swim in (think a colorado mountain river, but warm, and in the middle of the jungle) - natural pools, etc.  a few minutes above our place, there was this massive rock the water flew down - a natural water slide thirty or so feet long that blasted you into this pool at the base...  loads of fun!  and tons of beautiful hiking around - waterfalls, places you could jump off rocks into deep pools of green water...  such a great place play.

anyway, so with those, i was gone for about a week...  but i'm back home.  we have visitors coming soon (our directors, the heuertzes, will be here for almost a week, and then a taylor friend will be in the area for a little over a week.  then the servant team comes, and things get crazy busy.)  but God is good.

sorry no funny stories this time.  i tried, but i'm too tired to think of any...  maybe next time.  love to you all...  be good.

peace,

ben

oh - the music must be the favorite song of my new home - i hear it on average at least once a day blaring from loudspeakers...  it cracks me up...
